Esports World Cup 2024: Record $60M Prize Pool Announced

In a landmark announcement, the Esports World Cup Foundation has declared that the forthcoming Esports World Cup, scheduled to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will boast an unprecedented prize pool of $60 million. This development marks a significant leap from the previous record of $45 million set by the 2023 Gamers8 event, dubbed the Land of the Heroes.

Scheduled from July 17th to 21st, 2024, the Counter-Strike 2 Esports World Cup, a collaboration between the Esports World Cup Foundation and ESL, is anticipated to be a pivotal event. It will host 15 elite teams from across the globe competing for a share of the $1 million allocated to this specific tournament.

With competitions from 20 different titles taking place under one roof, this year’s Esports World Cup is more than just a competition for the top prize. The competition has been called the “Olympics of Esports,” and teams have to qualify via a number of esteemed channels, including:

• Direct invites were extended to two teams based on their performances in previous tier-one tournaments.
• Seven teams qualified through their high placement in the ESL World Rankings as of April 1st.
• Six teams earned their spots by triumphing in regional qualifiers.

The teams set to battle it out in Counter-Strike 2 include renowned names such as Team Spirit, Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, and MOUZ, among others. They will compete in a structured tournament format consisting of an Opening Stage, a Resurrection Stage for teams getting a second chance, and culminating in the Playoffs, where the ultimate champion will be decided.

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, expressed his pride in setting a new prize pool record, emphasizing the foundation’s commitment to the growth and support of the global esports community. “More than $60 million is a testament to our investment in the future of global esports, a commitment to esports fans who deserve exceptional events, and an extension of our mission to create meaningful competitive opportunities with life-changing prize pools for esports athletes everywhere,” said Reichert.

A significant portion of the total prize money, $20 million, has been allocated to the ‘Club Championship,’ a cross-game competitive format where the top 16 performing organizations are rewarded based on their overall performance at the event. The winner will be crowned the ‘Esports World Cup Club Champion.’

Furthermore, individual esports titles will see a collective prize pool of $30 million, ensuring competitive stakes remain high across the board. Additional funds are reserved for qualifiers and a $50,000 award for the MVP of each tournament.
